An Iraqi army soldier guards a young man arrested today in Baghdad's northwest Sunni neighborhood of Ghazaliyah. Under 'emergency powers' enacted for the Baghdad crackdown, no charges need ever be filed and he is subject to indefinite detainment.

BAGHDAD - Gunmen killed an adviser for the Sunni Endowment, an organisation which manages Sunni religious sites, along with two other employees in a drive-by shooting in Adhamiya in northern Baghdad, the Sunni Endowment said. One more employee was wounded.

BAGHDAD - A rocket landed in Baghdad's heavily fortified international Green Zone on Monday, rocking the U.S. embassy but causing no casualties, witnesses said.

BAGHDAD - At least four people were wounded when a rocket landed on a house in the district of Karrada in central Baghdad, police said.

HAWIJA - Police killed a gunman and arrested another when they were trying to plant a roadside bomb in the town of Hawija, 70 km (40 miles) southwest of the northern oil city of Kirkuk, police said.

TIKRIT - Police found the bullet-riddled body of a man in Tikrit, 175 km (110 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - A suicide car bomb killed two civilians and wounded five more in Rusafa, near the Shorja market in central Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - A mortar round landed on a residential district in Dora in southern Baghdad, killing a man and wounding three others, police said.

MOSUL - Gunmen killed a police major in the northern city of Mosul, police said.

MOSUL - A decapitated body was found in Mosul on Sunday. Another body of a man, with gunshot wounds, was found on Monday in Mosul, a hospital source said.

ISKANDARIYA - A curfew was imposed in the town of Iskandariya 40 km (25 miles) south of Baghdad after clashes erupted between gunmen and security forces, police said. Mortars also landed in a central residential district, killing two and wounding four.

BAGHDAD - Iraqi soldiers killed six suspected insurgents over the past 24 hours around Iraq, the Defence Ministry said.

BAGHDAD - Brigadier Qassim Moussawi, spokesman for the Baghdad security plan, said Iraqi forces captured a senior al Qaeda leader and two of his aides in the Abu Ghraib area northwest of Baghdad. He also said security forces found a cache of 430 anti-tank mines in Jamila in east Baghdad.

TAL AFAR - Iraqi police raided a house in Tal Afar, near the Syrian border, and shot a man wearing an explosive vest, which detonated, killing himself and another insurgent, police said.

BAGHDAD - A roadside bomb targeting a police patrol killed a policeman and wounded three others in the Zaafaraniya district of southern Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - Seventeen bodies were found in Baghdad on Sunday, police said.

MOSUL - Gunmen killed tribal leader Mohammed al-Igoud and wounded his son on Sunday in the northern city of Mosul, 390 km (240 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.

NEAR KUT - Gunmen killed an Iraqi contractor working for the U.S. forces in a drive-by shooting on Sunday in a town near the city of Kut, 170 km (105 miles) southeast of Baghdad, police said.

MOSUL - Gunmen killed a Facilities Protection Service captain in the northern city of Mosul on Sunday, police said.

DIWANIYA - The body of a man was found with gunshot wounds, bound and bearing signs of torture on Sunday in the southern city of Diwaniya, 180 km (110 miles) south of Baghdad, police said.
